Thailand on High Alert as Floods Hit Phetchabun

Phetchabun province is facing significant flooding following continuous, heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Nongfa. The situation is most critical in the upper districts, with Lom Sak district experiencing its worst flood levels in recent history. Authorities are on high alert as the rain is forecast to continue, posing a threat of further rising water levels.


Key Facts: What's Happening

  • The Pa Sak River in Lom Kao district has reached a record-high level of 12.6 meters, causing flash floods in downtown Lom Sak, a densely populated and economically active area.

  • Low-lying neighborhoods and farmlands in nearby Muang district have also been inundated.

  • The floodwaters have been so severe that nearly all roads west of the Pa Sak River in Lom Sak have been closed.


Emergency Response and Warnings

Phetchabun governor Saranyoo Meetongkam is overseeing the emergency response.

  • Evacuations: Residents living along the Pa Sak River have been evacuated to safer areas.

  • Vulnerable Groups: Special care is being taken to prepare safe zones for the elderly, children, and those who are bedridden.


  • School Closures: Several schools in Lom Sak district are temporarily closed for safety.

  • Infrastructure: Phetchabun municipality officials have deployed sandbags and water pumps at 11 key locations to manage the floodwaters and prevent further damage.

  • Community Action: Volunteers have been assisting residents to move their belongings to higher ground.


National Weather Outlook

The Meteorological Department (MD) has warned that heavy rain will persist across northern, northeastern, central, and southern Thailand. Residents in provinces like Lampang, Chiang Mai, Udon Thani, and Ranong are advised to remain vigilant for potential flash floods.
